Ashdown, Ardingly & Balcombe (52m)

Lovely steady climb to the top of the Ashdown and then one of my favourite stretches of road - a long, fast, slightly descing road for 5 miles from Wych X to Danehill and beyond - great for chaingang practice!. Then some nice back roads over to Ardingly, over the resevoir and a great sight of the Balcombe viaduct. Quiet roads also back through Horstead Keynes. Alternate variation which has downside of missing the long downhill but takes in the challenging short and steep (25% at one point) climb of Cobbs lane is to go straight across at Wych X, head to Sharpethorne, turn off to West Hoathy following the road to Cobbs Lane and Ardingly
