“Southborough & District Wheelers” have obtained use of the Brands Hatch Motor Racing circuit in Kent, for an evening of racing on the eve of the Tour de France weekend in London and Kent.

This will be the only British Cycling event at the circuit in 2007 and follows on from previous years 'Brands Hatch Southborough Classic'.

Southborough & District Wheelers, have promoted evening cycle racing on the circuit since 1999, and hope that the significance of the date this year will provide a great opportunity for those coming from further a-field to the South-East to watch the Tour de France, to ride the event which is being held on Friday 6th July. The evening of racing on the famous Kent motor-racing circuit will consist of 3 races - 2 for Youth category riders and one main handicapped race for all.  The events are held on the Indy circuit rather than the Grand Prix circuit.

Event organiser David Watson of Southborough & District Wheelers is delighted.

'Negotiations took a little longer than I would have liked, but to have got possibly the best Friday of the year for cycle racing in the South-East has been worth the wait!'

The event named the “Brands Hatch Southborough Classic” is a late entry to the British Cycling Calendar.

The evening of racing will commence at 18:15, and will be held in the same format as previous years.

The Under 8’s, 10’s, and 12’s event will start the proceedings, followed at 18:45 with a 15km race of for U14’s and U16’s.

The main race which is a Category C+ event for E/1/2/3/4 riders will get under-way at 19:30.   This is a handicapped 50km or 25 lap race of the Indy circuit.

It is hoped the event will once again raise good money for the “Dave Rayner Fund”.

Entries on the line only, at £3.50 for Youths, and £10 for all others.

Brands Hatch is 25 miles south-east of Central London, on the A20 just South of Dartford.
