CLUB RUNS AND TRAINING RIDES
Winter 2011 - 2012
We do not currently have a
regular set of club runs and training rides other than one small group ride that
goes most weeks (see below) but expect to have a set organised in the new year.
In the meantime please contact our club run co-ordinator David Bagge if you are
interested in joining rides.
Sundays 7:30am, Costwold
Outdoor Shop Mount Pleasant Tunbridge Wells. Fast group ride, typically
17-19mph avg depending on terrain, approx 3-4hrs. Runs most Sundays but may be
subject to change / weather. Please check forum topic "Sunday Rides" for weekly
updates. Leader David Bagge
If you are new to our club runs please read the club run etiquette notes below and also wear clothing appropriate for the weather you could encounter on the day. Finally it goes without saying that rides will probably not take place if it’s either too wet or too icy.
CLUB RIDING ETIQUETTE
The club’s strength is its reputation. Bad behaviour or poor riding etiquette can damage the club’s reputation. Please keep in mind the following etiquette rules when riding in club colours, or when partaking on a Club run...
Preparation…
• It is recommended riders wear cycle helmets.
• Always carry some loose change (money) if required for a Café stop, refreshments or Emergencies.
• Always carry spares and tools (Multi-tool recommended) including inner tubes, tyre levers and pump.
• If inclement weather is forecast, bring appropriate garments (eg Rain Jacket).
• Ensure your bike is well maintained (gears, brakes, wheels, tyres etc).
• Club members are encouraged to wear Club Jerseys.
• ARRIVE ON-TIME - Clubruns do leave promptly.
On the Road…
• Observe all aspects of the Highway Code - Red lights, Stop signs, riding on Pavements… etc.
• Be courteous and do not shout abuse at other road users or cyclists.
• Ride in a manner that is predictable and safe.
• Stronger riders should wait at the soonest opportunity if the group fragments, to avoid missing a change of direction. Similarly, the group should wait or assist those who experience punctures or problems. It does not matter how near to home the ride maybe, it is discourteous to leave a fellow rider stranded.
• Generally groups will ride two abreast, but where it is judged to be safer or courteous to ride single file, the instruction to ‘single out’ may be called and should be complied with. Riders at the front of a group should shout and point out road obstacles (pot holes, man-hole covers, parked cars, horses, pedestrians etc).
• Older, more experienced members should set an example to the new or younger riders.
Above all - enjoy yourself!
