Southborough and District Wheelers Go-Ride event 1

Saturday 8 May was the first of this years Go Ride events for the club.  A group of 10 young cyclists turned up for their coaching under the watchful eye of Alan Oakley, the clubs Go-Ride coach.

As is the trend this year, the weather was not too kind to us.  However after an initial warm up, Alan soon had the riders on their bikes and peddling.  The session started off with a slalom test to gauge the ability of the group. This was followed by the group being split into two teams for a relay race.  Due to the rather damp and chilly conditions, the session was interrupted for a heart warming trip around the cricket pitch. The second half of the session involved some low speed skills to develop control including a slowest race where by you have to be last over the line without putting your feet down. Finally a game of bicycle limbo was enjoyed by cyclists and spectators alike.  Some excellent skills were demonstrated as cyclists slid of the back of their saddles to make it under the ever reducing limbo height.   It is not too late to get involved, there are a further 3 Saturday sessions in the spring coaching.  In addition we plan to undertake further events in the year.
