The first Cycling Time Trials Open TT of the year, as usual organised by SDW with this being Alan Oakley's last event as promotor, went off really well in the end despite the snow!
The day was not too promising, with some snow on the ground and more falling in Bethersden. Us early arrivals thought it unlikely to go ahead, but around 9:15 I drove round the course and it seemed fairly OK. So we agreed a 15 minute later start and we were up and riding.
Although cold and snowy, there were will still 42 starters out of the 74 down to ride. There were no incidents reported, so all had a good ride and a finishing time.
Dave Wheeler (Rye) won the event with an excellent time given the conditions of 23:06.
7 Southborough riders were down to start, and 6 of us rode, with Gary Sinclair and Dave Millis having an interesting time trial baptism.
Most stayed for a well supported prize giving - mainly wine and champagne! - and the event went off extremely well.
